Information and Record Management: The Chibok Girls

It's so sad the where about of the young girls of Chibok who were abducted from their school premises is still unknown. It's also a shame that the exact name number of girls that are missing is unknown.

Information and Record Management is a big issue in Nigeria. How come the head of the school these girls were abducted from does not know the number of girls missing. Does it mean that the school no longer take roll calls? This means that the school authority does not know the number of students that come to school daily and the total number of students under their care. Imagine WAEC and CAN telling the general public the number and names of the girls!

Lack of proper information and record management in Nigeria should be addressed especially in the public sector. We hardly give exact information when accidents and mishap occur.

In the public sector, the issue of ghost worker is on the increase. No accurate record of their staff that are in-service or those that have retired.

Giving and keeping accurate record is very important to our development as a nation. Information given during a research or investigation affects the research's result.

This is a wake-up call to all. To that police officer, secretary, administrator, all of us must make conscious effort to keep accurate record.
