How To Set Up A Home Schooling Programme For Your Child

Home schooling is when school activities are been done at home. The child is exposed to activities that are been carried out in the structured school system at home. In this case, the child may be the only one being taught unlike the traditional school where you have many kids coming together to learn.  Home schooling of
toddlers can be done by their parents or a hired trained teacher. Some “Stay at home parents” take up the responsibility of home schooling their kids at this formation stage while others engage trained teachers to home teach their kids at home while they supervise. By nature, all parents are teachers. You can also augment traditional schooling with home schooling. Whichever instructor (Parent or Hired Teacher) you adopt, you need to have some basics in place:

The study room or library can serve as a learning place for your child to learn or any available spare room. Do not use the child’s bedroom. The child associates the bedroom with sleeping. Harmful objects should not be seen within the designated learning space. Also, electric appliances should be kept out of your child’s reach. In as much as we want the room to look like a class room, the room should be colorful, comfortable, spacious to move around and appropriate for your child’s age.  The necessary things that should be found in the learning place are desk, chair, cabinets (to store books and other learning materials) Television, DVD player and writing board.

Whoever is teaching the child should get structured learning materials appropriate for the child’s age. Using the right curriculum for the child will ensure that the instructor does not miss out relevant activities. You can approach the school your child will attend in future, to help you with the curriculum, so that when the child starts attending school he can blend with his peer. The learning materials should include:
Flash cards (letters-upper and lower cases, shapes and colours)
Abacus for counting
Building blocks
You can also try the learning materials from www.preschoolprepco.com.  Their learning materials was of great use when I was home schooling my son.

It is advisable to have a structured time schedule and also ensure you follow it. Although, keeping to time may be difficult at the initial stage but with time you will become perfect in the art. Also, expect push back from your child at the initial stage. When planning the learning time schedule, take your child into consideration. Learning should take place when he or she is mentally alert.

4. Fun Activities

Other activities like cooking, dancing, singing, painting should be included so that learning will not become boring for your child.

Conclusion
If you decide to home school your child, please, ensure that you take the child out to interact with other kids as often as possible. You can organize play dates with other kids, visit places like parks, religious gathering places, etc. The child needs to develop interpersonal skills. When faced with challenges, ask parents around that home school their kids for assistance.
If you are currently home schooling your child, it will be of great pleasure to hear from you.

Cheers!!!!
