What You Need to Know About Conjunctivitis (Apollo)

What is Conjunctivitis (Apollo) 

Conjunctivitis which is also known as Apollo or Pink Eye is an inflammation that is cause by virus, bacteria or allergy to one or both eyes. Conjunctivitis caused by bacteria can be as result of chlamydia or gonorrhea while conjunctivitis caused by allergy can be gotten through dust, smoke or pollen.

Symptoms of Conjunctivitis (Apollo)

A person infected with conjunctivitis is likely to experience any of the following on the infected eye(s):
Redness of the white part of the eye(s)
Itchy eye(s)
Discharge from one or both eyes after sleep.
Feeling of particles like sand in the eye
Swollen eye(s)
Burning sensation in the eye(s)
Pains in the eye(s)
The infected eye(s) producing tears

Symptoms of apollo are; redness of eyes,itchy eyes,swollen eyes, etc

Preventing Conjunctivitis (Apollo)

Once there is an outbreak of conjunctivitis in a society, adequate care must be taken to prevent people from getting the infection.

 If one of your family members have conjunctivitis (Apollo), do not use the same eye drop bottle that is been used by the infected person for treatment on those that are not infected with the aim of preventing the occurrence of conjunctivitis in them. Doing so, the uninfected persons will get infected through the eye drop bottle.

Always wash your hands when you attend to a person with conjunctivitis. Also if you have conjunctivitis, wash your hands often in other not to infect those around you.

For ladies that share make-up kit with family and friends, it is important you stop sharing your make-up kit with others to avoid getting infected or infecting others.

Increase your in-take of fruits that are rich in vitamin C. Remember Vitamin C is an immune booster and also help in fighting infections.

Treatment of Conjunctivitis (Apollo)

Once you have any of the symptoms listed above, it is advisable for you to see your doctor for treatment. Eye drops are used in treating conjunctivitis but it is necessary for your doctor to examine your eyes to determine the treatment that is best for you.

If you are feeling burning sensation in your eyes, place a wet towel on your eyes to relieve the burning sensation.

Take fruits rich in vitamin C.

  • Once one of your of eyes is infected with conjunctivitis, the other eye is likely to get infected also.


Conjunctivitis is out there. We all need to uphold good hygiene. For those that are infected with it should stay away from public gatherings if possible while they get treated.
